The Fix Base system requires a Low Cost Repeater able to gain close range reception; from within a few meters up to 20 meters. At such a close range, the data cannot be collected by the Concentrator or regular Repeater.

The Low Cost Repeater is synchronized to open every 4 hours to collect meter data and relay it to the closest regular Repeater. The Low Cost Repeater operates on batteries, with a life expectancy of 5 years.
